Rosenna East

Until 2014 Rosenna East was a Co-Principal Violinist in the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. A member of this chamber orchestra for nearly a decade, she worked with leading conductors and musicians, touring internationally, and making prizewinning recordings. She has also appeared with the Royal Northern Sinfonia, Aurora, CBSO, the Halle, Camerata Bern and Sir John Eliot Gardener’s ORR, among other orchestras. Working with non-classical ensembles, she collaborates with leading contemporary, electronic, folk, jazz and Latin American musicians.

Rosenna began her formal violin studies as a Suzuki pupil at the age of 3, touring at a young age to Sweden, the USA and Canada. As a teenager she was a music scholar at Putney High School in London, and a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. She took her first degree in Modern History at Brasenose College, Oxford, afterwards becoming a scholar at the Royal College of Music, London, where she took her Masters in Music with Professor Rodney Friend OBE.

Rosenna has been involved in delivering music education in various forms since 2000. She was RCM Junior Fellow in Education and Outreach in 2003, and her most recent teaching post was as violin teacher and String Ensemble director at St Mary’s Music School in Scotland. She became an examiner for the Guildhall School of Music Masters programme in 2014. Rosenna has travelled to work in Bosnia, Croatia, Sri Lanka, Israel and the Palestinian Territories to deliver social music projects in post-conflict situations.

Rosenna is also known for her work as an Arts journalist, contributing a mixture of features, reviews and columns to a number of national publications. She presents and curates live events for arts organisations, as well as programmes for BBC Radio.

Rosenna was a member of the SCO Board from 2006-12. She became Chair of the Board of Noise Opera in 2013, and received with them the Arts and Business Scotland Award for Entrepreneurship in 2014.
