Charlotte Murray

Charlotte grew up in Bath and is now based in Scotland. She began her writing career as a student, writing humour books for the publisher Crombie Jardine. After that she began writing plays for young people and experimenting with prose inspired by traditional narrative and her degree research.

She studied at the School of Scottish Studies at the University of Edinburgh and focused on culture, identity, folklore, supernatural beliefs, traditional music and traditional stories. Her main interest is in how traditions work, how people think, and where their stories come from.

Charlotte also works as agent and manager for traditional musicians and manages a start-up business, Unroofed Records. She works with musicians including Fiona Hunter, Mike Vass, Mairi Campbell, Innes Watson and Mairearad Green, designing creative music projects with a particular interest in cross-artform work.
