Lysandre Donoso

Lysandre Donoso is one of the up-and-coming stars of European tango – a French bandoneon player of rising reputation. His groups, Le Quartet Silbando and L’orchestre Silbando, are already prominent within the European tango scene.

The composers and arrangers of the golden era music of our dance set are the cream – or royalty – of the tango tradition. Aníbal Troilo was the band leader for whom Piazzolla played while still a teenager. One of our numbers tonight, Chiqué, we are playing in an arrangement written for Troilo by the young Piazzolla – long before he broke away into new tango. Osvaldo Pugliese, Julián Plaza, Horacio Salgán, Juan d’Arienzo, Emilio Balcarse – the music of these tango giants is infused with the unmistakeable underworld glamour of mid twentieth century Buenos Aires.
