Tom Hunter

I am a percussion and timpani player living in Edinburgh. I play in all Scotland’s major orchestras and ensembles and also provide tuition in orchestral percussion, timpani, snare drum, tuned percussion and drumkit.

From 2005 until March 2009, I was Assistant Principal Timpanist and Percussion player in the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Norway.

I am based in Edinburgh, continue to play regularly with Scotland’s major orchestras and I perform with contemporary music group, the Red Note Ensemble. I have also played with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and as Guest Principal Percussion with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra , Scottish Chamber Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Guest Principal Timpani with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and BBC Philharmonic Orchestra .

As a student at the RSAMD I was a percussion finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition, 2000 and a semi-finalist of the Shell sponsored London Symphony Orchestra Scholarship competition in 2000.

I teach percussion at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, St. Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh and Edinburgh University.
