Rick Standley on Amble

A great pleasure to welcome Amble Skuse back as I really like her way of working. The 'pitch and duration' aspect of her composed work is deceptively straightforward but it is the way she works with the musicians through the day that makes the work personal and effective.

A thought kept returning to me which was that her piece 'Chapels with Splendid Glass Windows' reminded me of other pieces we have played and recorded, notably 'Rosslyn' by John Taylor and 'The Church Closest to the Sea' by Gavin Bryars. I'm trying to find the connection between McFalls and ecclesiastical buildings...
