Brian Schiele

This is a strange process for the players! Normally we are in the business of recreating a piece of music which has been written down. We have quite a lot of control over the end product. This week we are at the beginning of the process only... we play written text which is a starting point for addition of effects and processes. These may have been written in to the score, but it is others that carry them out, and I for one do not know how to process our sounds except using old fashioned effects boxes!

Martin points out that it would be perfectly possible, even desirable for us to do this ourselves, but the purpose of the workshops is to give our composers the space to try things for themselves.

We enjoyed today’s piece, which has put us in a contemplative mood!
