The Lichfield Festival has an American theme this year. This programme brings together Samuel Barber's string quartet (which includes, as its slow movement, the famous Adagio which the composer later arranged for string orchestra) and two American composers of the minimalist school which came into being in the mid '70s - John Adams and Steve Reich.
