James Clapperton: den som ingen ser
Shostakovich: Piano Quintet
When the Cottier Chamber Project launched last year, it instantly became the biggest chamber music festival in the UK. Now back for a second year, it offers 22 consecutive days of uninterrupted chamber music from Scotland's finest chamber music groups.
Mr McFall's Chamber are delighted to be performing on opening night, for a late-night concert of music for piano quintet. Joined by Simon Smith (piano), McFalls tackle two pillars of the piano quintet repertoire: Edinburgh-based pianist and composer James Clapperton’s den som ingen ser, a haunting piano quintet based on fragments from Norwegian folk song, and Shostakovich's magnificent Piano Quintet - a work so captivating that it was sung on the trams and discussed on the streets of Soviet Russia when it was first published.
