Huge technological preparations today: my bow has had 2 tiny DPA microphones attached to it with masking tape and a contact microphone attached to the stick…I think the cables will be attached to my arm so that they don’t flap around too much.
Robert will be in a different place outside some of the time and there is an amp which has been prepared with dry rice to make interesting rattling sounds. There has been much moving of cables etc.
I don’t have to do any normal playing of notes at all, but special effects using bow and bridge of electric vla, so that’s four different sound sources. After a while the sounds have been pared down, for instance the contact mic didn’t give a special or interesting result….
After several run throughs the piece sounds very other-wordly.
